Posture Pain Example
In the picture above you see someone with an upper chest slump. As the ches slumps the upper back rises, the shoulders roll forward and down. This pulls on the base of the neck shoving it forward. Since the eyes always want to be even and looking forward, the head rolls back on the neck. Now the weight of the head is being held by the middle neck bones rather that being supported by the spinal column.
Now imagine what is going on inside of your neck. As the bones puch forward and your head rolls backward you are narrowing the opening at the top of your throat. When you sleep the fleah in this area relaxes and sags. If you have a lot of flesh or a narrow opening the relaxed tissue can cover the airway causing snoring and sleep apnea.
Do Not Try To Fix This By Just Pulling Your Head Back! If you do not correct the chest slump first, just pulling you head back will make things worse. See the page on Pain & Posuture to find out why.
